How to Read Sheet Music: Step-by-Step Instructions
Reading music can be so difficult when you begin playing piano, and it can seem impossible to learn! However, with step-by-step instructions you should be on your way in no time.
Most of the time when students are having a difficult time learning to read the music, it’s as simple as they aren’t doing it enough. Practice saying the sentences “every good boy deserves fudge” and “FACE” when you are playing the piano trebel staff. Practice saying these over and over, every day. If you find it helpful to write the sentences down on paper, try that. Your at home piano teacher should give you more tips on how to engage your own learning styles.

As hard as it may seem, start to begin trying to guess at naming the alphabet letter at the same time as you play them. I know, this seems impossible! However, what we have found is that when students guess the note names out loud at the same time as they play, they are most often correct! Students believe that they do not know how to read, when they in fact do. Their doubt in their ability is what causes them to name the piano alphabet notes wrong.
When you play piano, say the alphabet letter that comes to mind out loud at the same time. You’d be surprised that you are correct a lot of the time.
